If you're a parent then one of the first things you probably look into when relocating to a new city is the quality of the education to be found there. Luckily for those on their way to St. Catharines, Ontario, the city has a wide range of top-level education options for those students of secondary school level and far beyond. If you have home plans of having children that become the best that they can be, there are few better starts than St. Catharines schools.
Let's start with the high schools located in the city. There are eight institutions of this level operated by the District School Board of Niagara and three more run through the Niagara Catholic District School Board. Many of these schools excel in different areas and whether your child is destined to be an Olympic athlete or work in jobs Gatineau and Ottawa as part of the Canadian government there is a right school for them.
Out of all of these schools, there are three in the public school system and two in the Catholic sector of exceptional note:
Sir Winston Churchill is located in the city's Glenridge area and is home to a technology-based program where there are televisions in each classroom for the purpose of circulating school announcements. They are also the number one school in terms of their overall school rankings in the Provincial Literacy Test, in which ninety-five percent of the students performed at a passing level. Governor Simcoe Secondary School is home to the number four ranking rowing team in North America. Rowing is a huge sport throughout the city of St. Catharines and this is the school where it really thrives. They have also competed and placed well in international competitions.
Eden is in the public school sector but has a rich history and strong focus on Christian education. The school excels in athletics and the arts with eighteen different sporting teams and a recognized chamber choir, music program and theatrical productions.
In terms of the Catholic schools, Holy Cross has one of the best lacrosse teams in the country, placing in the top three at OFSAA nine times out of the last ten years, and St. Francis has one of the most well rounded programs.
Ridley College is the local private school of note and is thought to be one of the best in the province. Students who come out of these schools are going to be sought after by the best colleges and then even the top Toronto executive search firms if they use the programs to their advantage.
Once your children are finished with high school, they have unlimited options while staying right here at home. They could sign up for a real estate license course and get right into the workforce or attend Brock University. McMaster University also has a satellite campus to its medical school in the city and St. Catharines is home to the only teaching winery in Canada with the Niagara College Teaching Winery.
